The U.S. will be one of 40 countries worldwide observing ILCAD (International Level Crossing Awareness Day) this week on June 10-11. To help spread awareness of the need for drivers and pedestrians to be cautious near train tracks and railroad crossings, Operation Lifesaver, Inc. has created a shareable GIF of our latest crossing safety public service announcement (PSA),which is part of our “See Tracks? Think Train!” campaign.
OLI will also run a digital ad campaign on YouTube, Facebook and digital ad networks, featuring the PSA. The campaign will run in states with high crossing incident rates and recent high profile incidents, including Texas, California, Illinois, Indiana, Georgia, Alabama, Ohio, Louisiana, Florida, North Carolina and New York.
A number of our state programs and partners will participate in activities in conjunction with ILCAD, ranging from enforcement blitzes and Officer on the Train events, to free safety presentations and “Chalk One Up for Safety” rail safety drawing competitions.
International Level Crossing Awareness Day began in 2009 in Europe to highlight the importance of public education on railway safety issues. Learn more at http://www.ilcad.org/History.html.
About every three hours in the U.S., a person or vehicle is hit by a train. The PSA shows the risks trains pose to careless drivers or pedestrians. Help save lives – download and share this GIF with your friends, family and social media followers before, during and after ILCAD.
