DOT Secretary LaHood highlights Operation Lifesaver's distracted pedestrian and driving PSAs in blog

Ray LaHood, U.S. Secretary of Transportation, has made raising awareness about the problem of distracted driving a top safety priority. In his Fast Lane blog today and on his Facebook and Twitter pages, the secretary notes that Operation Lifesaver’s new distracted pedestrian PSA, produced with Federal Transit Administration support, is aimed at keeping pedestrians focused, safe, and alive. The new campaign was launched by OL with the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority to bring safety reminders to commuters.

The Secretary’s blog post includes the pedestrian distraction PSA, along with Operation Lifesaver’s distracted driving PSAs in video and audio formats. LaHood discusses the importance of communication and of the internet, but urges drivers and pedestrians to avoid the distractions of electronic devices, saying, “These habits get drivers and pedestrians killed. And Operation Lifesaver wants to do something about that. So, as the nice weather has more of us out of doors and walking, let's do as they suggest: Stay focused! Stay alive!”
