OLI Statement on the Nomination of Anthony Foxx as Secretary of Transportation
Statement by Operation Lifesaver Inc. President and CEO Joyce Rose on the Nomination of Anthony Foxx to be Secretary of Transportation, April 29, 2013
Operation Lifesaver, the national rail safety education nonprofit, welcomes the nomination of Charlotte, N.C., Mayor Anthony Foxx as U.S. secretary of transportation. Mayor Foxx knows the importance of keeping pedestrians and drivers safe while meeting the growing demand for public transit, passenger and freight rail services. The city of Charlotte has been an active partner with Operation Lifesaver on issues of rail safety, and we look forward to Mayor Foxx’s leadership on a national level.
Current Secretary Ray LaHood has been a strong advocate of raising awareness about the need for caution around tracks and trains. We value our continuing partnership with the U.S. Department of Transportation as we work to reach millions of drivers and at-risk pedestrians near tracks and trains with lifesaving information.
