Statement by OLI President Sramek on FRA guidance for improving rail safety

By Operation Lifesaver

Operation Lifesaver is part of the national safety solution to highway-rail collisions and pedestrian-rail incidents, as recognized by US Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood on January 20.

Our commitment to protecting lives has never wavered, only grown, since 1972 with expanded educational outreach through community safety presentations, training for truck drivers, school bus drivers and new drivers, and prevention programming.  Today’s OL meets new economic and social challenges by using technology to enhance its outreach to hard-to-reach, high-risk demographic groups. Developing campaigns targeted at critical pedestrian groups, like college students, sports enthusiasts and the homeless, offers a particular challenge as millions of Americans are easily distracted by increased use of electronic devices.

OL looks forward to a continued effort with these partners to offer prevention outreach for millions of drivers and at-risk pedestrians near tracks and trains.
