Statement by Operation Lifesaver, Inc. Expressing Concern Over Subway Surfing

By Operation Lifesaver

WASHINGTON, DC, Nov 8, 2024 – Operation Lifesaver, Inc. (OLI) released the following statement by Executive Director Rachel Maleh in response to increased subway surfing incidents across the U.S.:

“At Operation Lifesaver, Inc., we are deeply saddened and concerned by the rise in “subway surfing.” These dangerous activities not only put lives at risk but also impact families and communities in unimaginable ways. Tracks and trains demand respect and making safe choices around them can make the difference between life and loss.

We urge everyone to discuss the importance of safe decisions and actions around trains and tracks with loved ones. Your words can make a powerful difference.

OLI has resources for all age groups sharing the lifesaving rail safety education message and also offers free rail safety presentations to audiences across the U.S. including professional drivers, new drivers, school bus drivers, first responders, K-12 students and much more. Sign up for a free rail safety presentation, take the transit safety pledge and learn more about volunteering with OLI to make a difference in your community by visiting oli.org today. Together, we can stop track tragedies.”
