ALEXANDRIA, Va., August 4, 2014 – Operation Lifesaver, Inc. (OLI) President and CEO Joyce Rose and Vice President Wende Corcoran are speaking on OLI’s rail safety awareness campaign and its school bus driver online education tool at the 2014 Global Level Crossing Symposium (GLXS 2014), August 3-8 in Urbana, Illinois.

Today, as part of a session on driver behavior, Corcoran is demonstrating OLI’s new School Bus Driver e-Learning program, an interactive online experience for public and private school bus drivers designed to bring attention to choices a driver must make around tracks and trains.

On Wednesday, August 6, Rose will present Operation Lifesaver’s national safety campaign “See Tracks? Think Train!” during a panel discussion on crossing safety advocacy and awareness. The multi-year OLI safety campaign, created in partnership with the Association of American Railroads, Federal Highway Administration, Federal Railroad Administration, and Federal Transit Administration, combats the growing threat of distraction, trespass, and unsafe driver practices on and around rail and rail crossings.

“Speaking at the Global Level Crossing Symposium allows us to deliver our message to the largest international community of rail crossing safety and trespass prevention experts gathered in one place,” said Rose. “We are honored to present Operation Lifesaver’s newest public awareness and education efforts, exchange information and share best practices with attendees from all over the world at GLXS 2014.”

First started in 1990, the Global Level Crossing Symposium GLXS 2014 is the principal international conference bringing together engineering, safety, security, human factors, practitioners, academics and researchers from the global highway, rail, law enforcement, research and regulatory communities. It is held biennially at locations around the world. Operation Lifesaver is a sponsor of the symposium.
