The Posner Foundation of Pittsburgh Renews Critical Funding to Operation Lifesaver, Inc.

By Operation Lifesaver

WASHINGTON, DC, February 23, 2021 – Operation Lifesaver, Inc. (OLI) is pleased to announce that the Posner Foundation of Pittsburgh has renewed their grant funding for 2021. This critical funding will result in expanded rail safety education campaigns throughout the U.S.

OLI, the only non-profit and nationally recognized leader of rail safety education, is dedicated to saving lives by empowering the public to make safer choices near railroad tracks and trains. Projects supported through this grant include a competitive grant program that funds public education activities conducted by Operation Lifesaver state programs and much needed funds for state educational materials as well as an expanded rollout of OLI’s new Railroad Investigation and Safety Course (RISC)

“Thanks to the continued support of the Posner Foundation of Pittsburgh, our safety message has been shared with millions of Americans. We are so appreciative of their continued support as well as the trust and confidence they put in us to help keep our communities safe on and around railroad tracks and trains,” says OLI Executive Director Rachel Maleh. “We invite everyone to visit oli.org for more information and to connect with us on social media, along with contacting their state Operation Lifesaver program about local safety initiatives.”

Posner Foundation ChairmanHenry Posner III commented, “The Posner Foundation's continued support of Operation Lifesaver reflects our belief in both its mission and its effectiveness. There is no other organization that we are aware of that occupies such a broad and consistent presence throughout the USA in promoting safety around railroad lines.

"As much as we would like to think that common sense always prevails, in today's environment people need constant reminders that situational awareness is important no matter where you are or what you're doing.”

Previous grants from the Posner Foundation of Pittsburgh funded OLI projects in 2019 and 2020 to create and disseminate effective messaging when reporting on rail-related suicide incidents; distribute an Emergency Notification System Sign public service announcement (PSA) to radio and television stations; share additional railroad crossing and pedestrian safety PSAs with millions of Americans; supplement funding for state programs to support Operation Lifesaver rail safety initiatives; and expand national rail safety volunteer efforts.
