About Georgia Operation Lifesaver

Georgia Operation Lifesaver is a nonprofit public safety education program dedicated to reducing collisions, fatalities, and injuries at highway-rail crossings and preventing trespassing on or near railroad tracks.
As part of the national Operation Lifesaver program, founded in the early 1970s, Georgia Operation Lifesaver works in partnership with state and local agencies, law enforcement, schools, and community organizations to deliver life-saving rail safety education across the state. Through free presentations, public awareness campaigns, and community outreach, we reach drivers, students, first responders, and the general public.
Our approach is built on the three E’s—Education, Enforcement, and Engineering—working together to improve safety at railroad crossings and along rail corridors in communities throughout Georgia.
Each year, preventable tragedies occur when people underestimate how fast and quietly trains approach or assume they can beat them at crossings. Others take dangerous shortcuts by walking on or near tracks, not realizing it is both illegal and life-threatening. Trains cannot stop quickly, and one risky decision can have lasting consequences.
Our message is simple: See Tracks. Think Train.® Through education and awareness, we are committed to changing behaviors, preventing incidents, and saving lives across Georgia.
